Chatrooms

A chatroom is a web page which contains a large window into which you can type text. It enables a 'real-time' conversation in text form for small groups of people.

See below to find out more...

How to Chat
A side window gives the names of those who are online with you with the main window displaying the conversations. The image below shows what a chatroom window looks like.

Private chatrooms
Some websites allow private chatrooms for one-to-one chat. It is not advisable for children or teenagers to spend time in private chatrooms. It's much more fun, and safer, for children and teens to stay in public chatrooms.

Moderated and unmoderated chatrooms
Internet safety experts recommend that children and teens should only visit well-moderated chatrooms, and be actively discouraged from visiting unmoderated chatrooms.
