Jargon Buster

Jargon Buster

Chatroom users often type in abbreviations, slang and emoticons to save time and express themselves better. It's critical to know what they mean or you could end up getting very confused.

Chat jargon

Computer studies are part of schoolwork now, so it's likely your children may know more than you do. We get left behind when it comes to the latest gadgets and the interactive areas of websites, like chatrooms and message boards, are especially strange. The language of chat is strange to many parents too, chatters love to use abbreviations such as:

PM: Private Message

A/S/L: Age, Sex Location?

TTYL: Talk To You Later?

WBS: Write Back Soon

Btw: By the way

Ttfn: Ta ta for now

Cu l8er: See you later

Thx: Thanks

Lol: Laugh out loud

Gsoh: Good sense of humour

BRB: Be Right Back

VGL: Very Good Looking

Flare: Shout

ROFL: Roll On The Floor Laughing

M8: Mate

GM: Good Morning

GN: Good Night

GR8: Great

L8R: Later

ILY: I Love You

LMAO: Laughing My Ass Off
